Friends Open Philadelphia Restaurant That Only Hires Former Inmates

A pair of lifelong friends from Philadelphia are working to keep former felons from going back to prison by running a pizza shop that employs them.

They opened Down North Pizza last month and only hire formerly incarcerated people.

Kurt and Muhammed grew up together in Philadelphia and now they’re working together to help their community.

They even offer short-term housing at the apartment above the pizza shop, with six months of free rent so workers can save for the future.
