Anniversary of the 1889 Flood

Today is the 128th anniversary of the 1889 flood, which took place on this, the last day of May. More than 2200 people lost their lives as the flood waters came crashing into Johnstown following the breach of the South Fork Dam. The flood waters pushed all of the debris that it brought with it from South Fork (houses, barns, animals etc) into the stone bridge, catching fire and killing those who didn’t die in the flood waters.
