An overdue book is back at the Brooklyn Public Library after being gone with the wind for nearly six decades. Barbara Roston was a teenager when she checked out “Gone with the Wind” in 1959. She forgot about but recently returned the book… after 57 YEARS! The librarian was stunned to get the book back earlier this week. The accrued late fees? At a nickel a day, Barbara owed about $1000, but the library is waiving the charges. The library says it might display the well-worn copy of Margaret Mitchell’s novel as the most overdue book in the history of the New York Library system!
